It is time for me to choose a prop for SaRe, I am thinking the 4 blade Featherstream but people rave about the Brunton. I did not think a Brunton would fir the Ovni but Stephen mentions above some owners have fitted them. Can anyone confirm if the fit? If Stephen sees this post, can you share why it was not successful on the 345? Thanks Rob

Hello all,
Has anyone taken their Ovni through the Galapagos? I’m wondering how the anal the divers were about growth in the far reaches of the rudder and keel box?
Thank you,

We have a and had one on my previous boat too.
It has saved us several times, including snagging fishing gear at night in the notorious concentration of Padstow.
A very small nick in one of its blade confirms it saved us from a wire float riser in the entrance to the Helford River.
Would not be without it.

Huge vote for The Stripper from Ambassador. We have a 3 blade feathering Max Prop and therefore a 3 blade cutter The rudder and skeg certainly shrug off most ropes or nets which we encounter. However, we picked up a huge sunken rope when reversing and the Stripper chomped through it without a blink.
Ambassador created a very substantial unit to…[Read more] -

It worked when we caught a rope in Malaysia. I think you are correct re the bar in front of and below the propeller helping, but probably only when sailing. If motoring then I think the propeller will pull rope in. It’s a bit like insurance, you have it but you hope you don’t need it.

We have one of the round blades just in front of the prop. Not sure it will do anything but it was fitted when we bought quest. Picked one pot buoy up off Swanage and had to get towed to Studland and Dover down to clear it. We have also had ropes cought on the centre board/rudder (twice i think) we stopped the engine and lifted the centre…[Read more]

I have spurs, and I have yet to catch a rope around the prop, but I don’t know if that’s the spurs or just luck.

Is there a consensus on which is the best rope cutter for an Ovni 395? We are heading up to Indonesia next and we are being told it’s when not if … with so much fishing gear around. We have a Kiwi prop on the boat. I have always felt that the underwater design of the Ovni with the large skeg in front of the prop gives us a lot of protection fro…[Read more]

I took the plunge and had Nella’s topsides blasted with glass. it gets rid of the paint and all the filler.
The boat is now a kind of sparkly grey! As somone already noted the sandblasted surface is very non slip, in my opinion its unacceptably abrasive and needs knocked down with sandpaper.
My intention is to use professionally applied…[Read more] -

Perfect, great find Paul.
Ours are starting to show signs of rust and paint peeling.
Now l’ve got Bin envy is that the standard size bin?
Our 385 is 2004 and the bin looks half your size.
Regards

The draw runners on our bin and draws were all going rusty and a bit clunky so I was looking for replacements.
We found the ones from B&Q are available is exacly the right sizes, ball race movement and open wider than the old ones (the price is pritty good as well!). They were a stright swap but work much better and are now quiet and rust free. -
